A shipping bottleneck for Jewish refugees in the Netherlands seeking to proceed to Australia has been broken through an arrangement concluded between the HIAS and the Netherlands Emigration Foundation in The Hague, HIAS headquarters here announced today.
Isaac L. Asofsky, HIAS executive director, explained that the “scarcity of transportation–caused by Dutch repatriation of civilians and military personnel from Indonesia–has resulted in protracted delays in sending refugees to Australia from Holland.” Under the new arrangement, HIAS-aided DP’s will be included in shipments of Dutch citizens to Australia. The Netherlands Government is presently engaged in a program of transferring 10,000 Dutch nationals to Australia.
