The Israel Cabinet today decided that not a single immigrant must remain this winter in tents. It adopted a plan submitted by the Ministry of Labor which provides for the immediate transfer of immigrants from tents to safer and better lodgings. The plan is to be carried out before the end of December.

A Cabinet spokesman today revealed that the Israel Government is now studying another, still larger, project to liquidate within the next two years all Maabaroth–the transitory camps–and transfer approximately 50,000 families from the Maabaroth to permanent dwellings.

The plan provides that each of these families is to participate in the erection of its own home, but the government will allocate 50,000,000 pounds to be repaid by those who will move into permanent homes. The government believes that approximately one-third of the 50,000 families will become agricultural workers.
