Argentina Honors Weizmann’s Memory; Observes National Mourning

Argentina today observed a day of national meaning for the late President Weizmann of Israel. Flags an all national buildings at army installations and on naval vessels were lowered to half-mast by official government order. Dr. Pablo Manguel, Argentine Minister to Tel Aviv, was in st### as President Peron’s personal representative at the funeral to place a with of flowers on the bier of Dr. Weizmann.

Representatives of President Juan Peron and the Foreign Ministry yesterday called on Yaacov Tsur, Israel Minister to Argentina, to express official condolences on the death of President Chaim Weizmann. Many diplomats, including the envoys of the Soviet Union, Canada and Norway called to extend their sympathy.

At an emergency meeting of the DAIA, central representative body of Argentine Jewry, the Central Zionist Council and the Buenos Aires Jewish Community a period of mourning for the Argentine Jewish community was set from Dr. Weizmann death Sunday until Nov. 19. All Jewish organizations were closed today, during the funeral in Israel, while Jewish owned businesses were asked to close down for several hours and no Jewish theatres will be open until Thursday. On the evening of the last day of the mourning period a community-wide memorial meeting will be held here.
