A program of aid to Israel was today adopted by the administrative committee of the B’nai B’rith, interim governing and policy-making body of the organization, at a meeting attended by 50 representatives of B’nai B’rith from all parts of the country.
The program, announced by Philip M. Klutznick, president of the organization, calls for direct voluntary participation of B’nai B’rith members in the following efforts: 1. Creation of a B’nai B’rith Forest near Jerusalem, 2. Gift lunch boxes will be sent to Israeli school children in order to provide them with one supplementary meal a day; 3. Continued cooperation and participation of B’nai B’rith membership in the Israel Bond drive; 4. Sponsorship of the B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundation at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem; 5. Sponsorship by the Women’s Supreme Council of B’nai B’rith Children’s Home in Israel; 6. Sponsorship of the B’nai B’rith Veterans Rehabilitation Center in Honor of Chaim Weizmann in Tel Hashomir, Israel; 7. Development of a special information service to keep the B’nai B’rith membership informed of the progress of these efforts in behalf of Israel; 8. Establishment of a permanent B’nai B’rith Israel Committee through which all efforts will be channeled.
Among the speakers who addressed the conference were Dr. Nahum Goldmann, chairman of the Jewish Agency; and Dr. Israel S. Drapkin of Chile, president of the B’nai B’rith Latin American Committee. Frank Goldman, honorary president of B’nai B’rith, was appointed to represent the Order at the B’nai B’rith Latin American conference in Buenos Aires next month.
