The Rumanian High Court -has approved most of the harsh sentences meted out to Zionist leaders by Rumanian military tribunals in the past year, reducing several of the sentences by only two years, it was reported here today in a dispatch from Vienna.
The report, published in the newspaper Maariv, said that the sentences of 15 and 20 years imprisonment assessed against the Revisionist leaders M. Kenner and M. Drimmer, respectively, were approved, while a life term handed out to Dr. Zysou has been reduced to 20 years imprisonment. A 15-year term for Jean Gohen has been cut to 13, the report added. Suzanne Benveaiste end Jean lippman, who had requested their release on bail pending an appeal, were turned down when the prosecutor opposed the request.
The conviction of Zionist and Jewish communal leaders came on charges of Zionist activity, organizing an immigration movement to Israel and maintaining contact with Jewish organizations abroad.
