Dr. Jonas E. Salk, Jewish doctor who discovered the anti-polio vaccine that earned him instantaneous world acclaim, arrived bred by air today from his home in Pittsburgh to receive a citation from President Eisenhower.
At a White House ceremony tomorrow the President will present citations to Dr. Salk and Basil O’Connor, president of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. The presentation will be made at 2 P.M.
The White House said today the citation would be given pending action by Congress on proposals to bestow a standing award for distinguished civilian achievement for such contributions to humanity as that made by Dr. Salk.
