An Israel Air Force plane crashed in the Galilee yesterday, it was announced here today, and its pilot, Lt. Ira Shmueli, was killed.

The trial of Uri Galin, pilot of a Piper Cub which crashed into a crowd at Magan, in the Tiberias area last July killing 17 persons, began in Haifa yesterday. The pilot pleaded “not guilty” to the charge of “unintentionally causing the death of 17 persons,” but the court decided that he would have to stand trial. The small plane crashed into a crowd gathered to commemorate those Jews who had parachuted behind Nazi lines on Allied intelligence and rescue missions.
