The 250-year-old Ashkenazi synagogue in the former Amsterdam Ghetto, desecrated during World War II, will be restored with financial aid from the Dutch Government, it was announced today.

The Government will pay 90 percent of the costs of restoration. The City of Amsterdam previously had purchased the building to make it a museum and exhibition hall of architecture.
