P. Movick, editor of The Morning Freiheit, the Yiddish-language, pro-Communist daily newspaper, today criticized severely the most recent Soviet anti-Semitic book uncovered here, “Judaism and Zionism,” by F.S. Mayatsky, as a work even more anti-Semitic than “Judaism Without Embellishment.” The Mayatasky book was issued by the State Publishing House in Kishinev, capital of the Moldavian SSR.

The effect of the Mayatsky work, said Mr. Novick, in an article, “can only strengthen anti-Semitism” in the Soviet Union. He stated that the book attacks, among others, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, charging the JDC with “espionage,” and called this attack “a provocation that has the door of the Doctor’s Affairs, the last and most atrocious piece of work under Stalin.” He called upon Soviet authorities to root out anti-Semitism, holding that “patches will not help,” insisting that what is needed is a thorough overhaul of Soviet and Russian Communist thinking on the subject of anti-Semitism.
