The City Council of Philadelphia today unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the Arab boycott against Israel, and requesting the Congress of the United States to enact legislation “reaffirming American principles of fair and open trade and international cooperation in the market place of the free world.”

The resolution declared that the Arab boycott “is not in accord with the American concept of fair business practices and our announced policy of economic cooperation as a means of establishing peace throughout the world.”

The measure had been introduced by Councilman George X. Schwartz on the initiative of Myer Schwartz, president of the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce of Philadelphia. The unanimous action of the Council was announced by the municipal body’s president, Paul D’Ortona.
