A new Jewish religious group with no political ties, held its founding convention here today. Its initiator, Prof. Ephraim Urbach of the Hebrew University, defined the aims of the group as that of fostering traditional Judaism and “refurbishing” Jewish religious law and institutions under “modern conditions.”

Some of the participants urged the new movement to work in close cooperation with the Chief Rabbinate, warning that otherwise Orthodox Judaism in Israel might possibly be threatened.
