Nearly one million Jews around the world have been given “the opportunity to observe the mitzvah of tefillin,” many of them for the first time, as a result of the campaign initiated by Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, on the eve of the Six-Day War. The campaign was conducted by the Lubavitch Youth Organization. Many Jews put on philacteries at the Western Wall at the youth organization’s “tefillin booth.”
