Israel Air Force jets continued to pound terrorist concentrations in southeastern Lebanon this morning after sorties yesterday afternoon and evening. All aircraft returned safely to their bases, a military spokesman announced. Today’s attack commenced at 6:15 a.m. local time.

Targets included terrorist strongholds near the villages of Hatzbiyeh and Rashid-el-Wadi and other villages on the western slopes of Mt. Hermon. It was from this area that four armed terrorists infiltrated Kibbutz Shamir last week and murdered four women. The air raids today and yesterday are believed to be a delayed retaliation for that outrage–the delay occasioned by President Nixon’s visit to Israel over the weekend. They were the first Israeli air activity over Lebanon since May 31.

Israeli planes also attacked terrorist bases near Khreiba in the so-called “Fatahland” area of southern Lebanon; Ein Arab; Kaifa; Rashiya-el-Puhar; and the Hatzbani River gorge.
