Former Defense Minister Moshe Dayan has called for the full integration of Israel’s Arab citizens into national life, including compulsory military service. He made the suggestion during the 12th and last of a series of lectures he has been delivering at Bar Ilan University. Arabs are the only minority in Israel not permitted to serve in the armed forces, Druze and Circassians are subject to conscription and Bedouins may volunteer.
