South Africa’s first Conservative Jewish congregation, Har El, has been established at Sandton, a suburb of Johannesburg, with an initial membership of 60 families. The spiritual leader is Rabbi Ben Zion Isaacson, a native of South Africa who studied for the pulpit in the United States. An eventual membership of at least 100 families is expected.
