Two armed Jordanians who infiltrated into Israel were captured by an Israel Defense Force patrol before dawn Sunday, the IDF disclosed Wednesday night.

The incident was the seventh infiltration from Jordan this year and the fourth this month.

The two men were apprehended near Sdom, south of the Dead Sea. Both men carried hand guns and had planned to attack an IDF patrol, IDF sources said.

One was a Jordanian army soldier and the other a civilian, identified as a teacher from the Amman area. Both were in a state of exhaustion when captured and offered no resistance. Apparently they had walked a great distance in intense heat.

An IDF spokesman said neither man belonged to a terrorist organization. No explanation was offered why news of the capture was withheld for three days.
