The controversial World War II-era pope warned against creating a Jewish state in Palestine, according to recently discovered documents. The documents, found in archives at the Library of Congress, indicate that a Vatican spokesman wrote President Roosevelt to emphasize that the pope’s help in moving 4,000 Slovak Jewish children to Palestine during the war did not indicate his support for a Jewish state.
