The Russian Supreme Court struck down the decision of a district court that had ruled a Communist lawmaker known for his anti-Semitic statements should have been allowed to run in the country’s 1999 parliamentary elections, according to the Union of Councils for Soviet Jews. A ruling in favor of Gen. Albert Makashov would have forced the election to be held again.
