Syria’s peace overtures are genuine, the chief of Israeli military intelligence said. Israeli media quoted Maj. Gen. Aharon Ze’evi-Farkash as telling Israel’s Cabinet on Sunday that Syrian President Bashar Assad’s recent offer to restart peace talks with Israel resulted from a real desire to remove U.S. sanctions against Damascus.
