The United States and European Union issued a joint declaration calling on the Palestinians to quash terrorism and on Israel to freeze settlements. The statement was issued Monday after President Bush met with E.U. Council President Jean-Claude Juncker, E.U foreign policy chief Javier Solana and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. Also Monday, the U.S. State Department said the Palestinian Authority must act against terrorism after terrorists killed an Israeli soldier and an Israeli civilian in recent days.
