The Israel Heart Fund released a study indicating that early health-promotion intervention programs can help stem childhood obesity. The study, conducted in conjunction with the Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba, included 101 kindergarten children, about half of whom were assigned to an intervention group and half to a control group. During the 14-week program, positive changes were observed in the intervention group with respect to body weight, body-mass index, physical activity and fitness.

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is teaming up with the Jewish National Fund to offer an academic course in nature studies and open-area management. The course comes as part of a broader initiative to establish a program in forestry studies, which will include undergraduate and graduate scholarships, guest lecturers and field trips.

The Jewish Communal Professionals of Chicago published a guide to promoting women in the workplace. “Good Business: A Best Practices Guide to Retaining and Advancing Women in Jewish Communal Service” is part of JCPC’s SULAM: A Career Ladder for Women in Jewish Communal Service project, with funding from the Jewish Women’s Foundation of Chicago. The guide outlines policies and programs that promote flexible work schedules to help women balance their professional and personal lives. It also is meant as an advocacy tool for those who want to change their organizations.
