Friendly Arab states not so friendly

Israel warned its citizens to avoid Egypt, Jordan and Morocco. The
advisory, issued this week on the recommendation of the government’s
Counter-Terrorism Unit, did not provide details but came against a backdrop of
mounting anger in Egypt over allegations that Israeli troops massacred
Egyptian prisoners during the 1967 Six-Day War. Egypt and Jordan are the
only two Arab countries to have full ties with the Jewish state, but relations have been strained during the past six years of Israeli-Palestinian fighting. Israel has low-level diplomatic ties with
Morocco. The new Counter-Terrorism Unit advisory put Egypt, Jordan and
Morocco in Israel’s highest threat category alongside enemy countries such as
Iran, Syria and Lebanon.
