A kibbutz choir was named for the Israel Prize.

The Israel Prize Committee announced that this year’s lifetime achievement award would go to the Givatron folk-song ensemble.

Founded in Kibbutz Geva in 1948, the choir’s various generations of singers have put out 26 albums. For many Israelis, its music became emblematic of modern Zionism.

The Israel Prize is awarded on Israel’s Independence Day.
