Russian Jews mark Victory Day

Russian Jews are commemorating the 62nd anniversary of the USSR victory over the Nazis. Interfax reported that memorial prayers would be said Wednesday in Russian synagogues to honor the memory of the Soviet soldiers who died in World War II.Berel Lazar, one of Russia’s chief rabbis, will read the prayer from Chabad’s Marina Roscha synagogue in Moscow, followed by a performance for war veterans to include traditional Jewish and wartime songs. The commemoration will conclude with a meal of traditional Jewish food and vodka.According to a news release from the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia, a Chabad umbrella organization, several thousand people from across the former Soviet Union are expected to participate in the prayers.
