Israel convicted a second Palestinian in the 2001 assassination of Tourism Minister Rehavam Ze’evi.

Basel Asmar, a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, on Monday was found guilty by the Jerusalem District Court of taking part in the terrorist group’s slaying of Ze’evi in a hotel in the capital.

The PFLP cell leader, Hamdi Quran, was sentenced last year to more than 140 years imprisonment by the same court.

Asmar, Quran and several other cell members were jailed by the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank in 2002 under a Western-mediated deal. But Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert sent troops in to seize them in 2006 after receiving word that they were planning a prison break.

No sentencing date for Asmar was set.
