Abraham Brumberg, a Yiddishist who edited an influential U.S. government periodical that critiqued communism, has died.
Brumberg, 81, died Jan. 26 at his home in suburban Chevy Chase, Md., the New York Times reported last week.
From 1952 until 1970, Brumberg edited Problems of Communism, published by the U.S. Information Agency. His writings on the Jews in the eastern bloc were well-known.
Brumberg also recorded two albums in Yiddish, one a collection of folk songs and one of poetry.
Brumberg was born in Tel Aviv in 1926; his parents had fled Poland, but returned, only to flee again after the Nazi invasion in 1939.
