Israel urges citizens shun Sinai resorts

Citing terror alerts, Israel urged its citizens not to spend Passover at Egypt’s Red Sea resorts.

The Counter-Terrorism Bureau in Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s office announced this week that there is a heightened risk of terrorist attacks in the Sinai and that Israelis should consider it off-limits until further notice.

One Jerusalem official was quoted as saying the area, where hotels catering to foreigners have at times been targeted by Islamist suicide bombers, is “the most dangerous place in the world for Israelis.”

Tens of thousands of Israelis flock to Eilat and further south to Egypt’s Red Sea ports and other Sinai attractions during major Jewish holidays.
