Clinton may be Obama pick for state post

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Hillary Clinton could be President-elect Barack Obama’s leading choice for secretary of state.

Obama and Clinton, a New York senator, met Nov. 13 in Chicago and discussed the position, according to The New York Times and other news outlets, citing advisers to the two politicians.

Clinton lost the Democratic presidential nomination to Obama in a tight, heavily contested race. She was considered for his vice-presidential running mate, a position ultimately given to Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.).

Jewish voters overwhelmingly preferred Clinton to Obama in the primaries, according to polls.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, who also ran for the Democratic nomination, also is said to be under consideration for the secretary job.
