(JTA) — Israel is preparing to protect officers who served in the Gaza Strip war from prosecution overseas.
Ha’aretz reported on Friday that the Israeli military censor has banned the publication of the full names and photographs of officers up to battalion commander.
Israel Radio reported that Ehud Barak, the defense minister, plans to outline at Sunday’s Cabinet meeting measures to assist soldiers who may face prosecution abroad.
There are reports that overseas groups are pressing for war crimes prosecutions of Israeli soldiers.
The war, launched around Dec. 19 by the Hamas terrorist group that controls Gaza, ended last week with both sides declaring unilateral cease-fires.
