The Alaska Jewish Museum is seeking a full-time Researcher and Exhibit Developer who will assist the Director in the research and development of the permanent exhibits to achieve the mission of the Alaska Jewish Museum.
The Alaska Jewish Museum was established with a mission to educate the public of the untold Jewish history of Alaska and the previously unrecognized contributions of Alaska’s Jewish residents, to the purchase and development of Alaska’s government, commerce and humanities from territorial days to present.

AJM’s first permanent showcase exhibit development project scheduled is the “Operation Magic Carpet-Alaska Contribution” exhibition. This exhibition will tell the fascinating but little known story of how, between 1949 and 1950, Alaska Airlines played a key role in “Operation Magic Carpet”, secretly evacuating 50,000 Jewish refugees from Yemen to Israel without a single loss of life.
JTA reporters covered Alaska Airways’ cooperation with the Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) in Operation Magic Carpet in 1949, as well as Operation Flying Dragon, which brought Jewish refugees to Canada from Shanghai. The director of Operation Magic Carpet, James Wooten (a Baptist) died on May 30, 1985. Another OMC pilot, Warren Metzger, was honored in 2007, along with his wife, Marion, who was a flight attendant for the Airline.
