(JTA) – Israel’s Hadas Yaron won the Best Actress award at the 69th Venice Film Festival.

Yaron received the award Saturday for her role in "Fill the Void," which is set in Tel Aviv’s Chasidic community. Yaron plays Shira, an 18-year-old set to enter into an arranged marriage who must decide whether to marry her brother-in-law after her sister dies in childbirth.

Rama Burshtein, who is haredi Orthodox, directed the film.

"The Orthodox world is so interesting it does not need to cope with the secular," Burshtein told a festival news conference last week. "It can be very interesting and the drama can be very strong inside."
