(JTA) — The U.S. State Department issued a worldwide caution against the continued threat of terrorist attacks against U.S. citizens and overseas interests.
“Current information suggests that al-Qaida, its affiliated organizations, and other terrorist groups continue to plan and encourage kidnappings of U.S. citizens and Westerners,” the warning issued last week said.
“Information also suggests that al-Qaida and its affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks against U.S. interests in multiple regions, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. These attacks may employ a wide variety of tactics including suicide operations, assassinations, kidnappings, hijackings, and bombings.”
The warning cautioned against Hezbollah in Lebanon, which the U.S. government has designated as a terrorist organization, citing “spillover violence” from the current crisis in Syria.
The statement said that “no part of Syria should be considered immune from violence.”
