(JTA) — Pakistani security services planned to carry out terror attacks on a U.S. and an Israeli consulate in India, Indian security agencies said.
Information about the attack was given to Indian security services by a Sri Lankan national — allegedly hired by Pakistani officials as part of the plan — during an interrogation, The Times of India reported Sunday.
The Sri Lankan, Sakir Hussain, said Pakistan’s ISI intelligence agency planned to attack the U.S. consulate in Chennai and the Israeli consulate in Bangalore. Hussain reportedly said he was ordered to arrange identification papers for two bombers from Maldives.
Indian investigators reportedly found photos of the U.S. and Israeli consulates in Hussain’s possession.
A Pakistani government spokesman in Sri Lanka, Muhammad Daud Ehtisham, dismissed the report as a “malicious media campaign” and speculative, The Times of India reported.
