Ben-Gurion Airport reportedly is not equipped to deal with a mass-casualty disaster. An exercise carried out at Israel’s main international airport two months ago that envisaged two planes going up in flames and the fire spreading to a departure lounge found that staff did not respond properly, Army Radio reported Tuesday. It cited a leaked memorandum about the drill as attributing the setbacks to senior airport personnel. Ben-Gurion’s director, Ze’ev Sarig, denied anything was seriously wrong. “By and large, all departments acted in strict accordance with procedures and in a professional manner,” he told Army Radio.
