(JTA) — An email attributed to comedian Jon Stewart, in which he supposedly expresses support for the activist group Code Pink, is fake.

Comedy Central said Thursday that the popular television host was not the author of the email circulated the day before by Code Pink.

”This letter was absolutely not written by Jon Stewart,” a spokesperson said.

A spokesperson for Code Pink told JTA she “could not confirm or deny” whether Stewart was the author of the news release.

In the email, the author calls Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjmain a "friend" and urges the U.S. government to release memos related to drone attacks on militants in Pakistan.

Code Pink is a left-wing advocacy group critical of U.S. foreign policy, including its support of Israel.

In 2011, Code Pink activist Rae Abileah was arrested for disrupting an address by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the U.S. Congress.
