Dear President Obama,
As the leader of the largest women’s Zionist organization in America, I’m dismayed at your choice of Mary Robinson to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. While I understand the impulse to honor her contributions to the women’s rights movement, I am troubled that you would overlook her history of hostility to Israel in order to do so. Not only did Robinson’s leadership of the 2001 Durban World Conference on Racism allow the conference to devolve into an exercise in anti-semitism, her record since 2001 has continued to be disturbing to those of us who are committed to Israel. Robinson’s views are far outside of the mainstream and dangerous to Israel and her supporters. I join my colleagues working to strengthen the ties between the United States and Israel in urging you to publicly repudiate her stance on Israel.
