11,000 Still Interned in England

Home Secretary Herbert Morrison announced in Commons today that a total of 22,200 German and Austrian civilians have been interned, including 13,200 in Category C and 5,000 in Category B. of these, approximately 4,400 were transferred to Canada, 2,200 to Australia and 4,600 were released, leaving 11,000 still interned here.

Asked how many of these should be regarded as “dangerous,” Morrison declared it was a matter of opinion and of degree and the question could not be answered statistically.
