A three-point program for implementing the Palestine mandate is offered as an alternative to partition, which is attacked from many angles, in a book by Herman L. Weisman entitled “The future of Palestine,” published today with Prof. Felix Frankfurter, Bernard Flexner, Judge Julian W. Mack and Sol M. Stroock as sponsors. Mr. Weisman is a New York attorney.
The changes urged in the application of the mandate are assurance of public security, greater governmental direction of and participation in the solution of economic, agricultural and educational problems of the country, and integration of the development of Transjordan with the regeneration of Palestine under a single administration.
The 138-page volume, which is entitled “An Examination of the Partition Plan,” holds that for traditional Zionists partition involves the danger of creating “a Jewish State that could not live,” meanwhile losing hard won guarantees under the Balfour Declaration. The book is released by the American Economic Committee for Palestine and copies have been sent to the British Cabinet, members of Parliament, the League of Nations and members of the United States Congress.
