Most of the prisoners, including Jews, held at the Dachau concentration camp near Munich have been transferred to the Buchenwald camp in Thuringia, according to reports today from Weimar. For the last week, two or three transports daily have arrived at Buchenwald and the camp’s population has risen from 2,000 to more than 20,000. The move reportedly was dictated by plans to intern members of the Czech colony in Vienna in the event of war.
Forty Austrian refugees deported recently from Holland as illegal immigrants have been jailed in Dusseldorf, it was learned here. The refugees came to Holland from Vienna after crossing Germany, but were brought back by the Netherlands police and handed over by the German frontier authorities to the Gestapo (German political police) at Dusseldorf.
Jewish leaders in Dusseldorf are attempting to find an emigration land for the group. At the same time, attempts are being made in Berlin to have the refugees returned to Vienna, there to await an orderly emigration plan. The Dusseldorf Gestapo, however, has refused to release the prisoners and threatens to place them in a concentration camp unless they are enabled to emigrate soon.
