Forty-two women and an Israeli Arab from Taibeh village sustained slight injuries when a small bomb exploded in a vegetable stall in the Petach Tikva market place this morning. The bomb and timing device was concealed in a cigarette box buried beneath cases of vegetables. Police cordoned off the area and detained several persons for questioning.
A home-made bomb exploded on the staircase of a building in the Talpiot suburb of Jerusalem last night but caused no casualties. The blast was heard over a wide area. The Jerusalem region has been the target of terrorist activities recently. During the past few days police have discovered bombs planted in various sections. All were safely dismantled. One of the bombs was found in the crowded Mahane Yehuda market where 70 people were injured several years ago when a bomb exploded in a parked car.
Security officials reported, meanwhile, a slight rise in the number of volunteers for the civil guard in Jerusalem. Nearly 7000 have joined the guard, over 1000 of them high school seniors.
