A group that works to combat European racism issued an analysis that shows racism increased last year in the European Union.
The just-released report by The European Network Against Racism confirms a number of previous reports about the 27 E.U. member states.
“Shadow Report 2006” said last year “saw a notable rise in extremist organizations and political parties expressing racist sentiments, not only on the margins of politics but increasingly within the mainstream and even within the government.â€
The network, which consists of 600 anti-racism, non-governmental organizations, in its report noted that Jews, Muslims and Gypsies were most likely to experience racism. The number of extreme-right, anti-immigrant organizations have increased in the former Eastern bloc, the report said.
