A Jewish newspaper in Russia marked its 400th issue. Ami, the St. Petersburg biweekly, was founded in June 1990, at the height of Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev s Glasnost policies. Yakov Tsukerman, founder and editor of Ami, recalled that the early issues of his paper were still checked by Soviet censors. The newspaper s current print run of 2,500 copies is distributed to subscribers in Russia, Western Europe, Israel and the United States.
