A radical Roman Catholic staging a sit-in to protect crosses erected near the site of the Auschwitz death camp said Thursday he had mined the site to deter government attempts to remove him. Kazimierz Switon, who has led a campaign during the past year to erect hundreds of crosses near Auschwitz, said he had placed plastic explosives around the mobile home from which he has staged his 11-month sit-in.
