Abraham Walkowitz, a leading Jewish painter known for his impressionistic scenes of New York City and for his portraits of the famed dancer, Isadom Duncan, died here yesterday at the age of 84.
Born in Siberia, Mr. Walkowitz was brought to the United States in 1889, and subsequently studied art in New York and in Paris. His first major exhibition was held in New York in 1912, and his works were later shown throughout the United States and in Israel. He was the author of numerous books on art.
