The Palestine Government will be asked to cooperate with the Jewish Agency in providing land and jobs for several thousand demobilized Jewish soldiers after the war, Dr. Bernard Joseph, acting head of the Agency’s political department, today told a press conference here.
The Agency, Dr. Joseph said, has prepared an extensive memorandum on the rehabilitation of demobilized soldiers, which has been submitted to the Government. It asks assistance in settling 2,000 to 3,000 ex-soldiers on Jewish National Fund and Government land, and in constructing new housing in the suburbs of larger cities and large settlements.
The Government, as well as all Jewish institutions, will be asked to give employment preference to veterans, the Agency official said. Returning soldiers who wish to continue their studies at institutions of higher education will have 200 scholarships made available to them by the Agency.
