American Jewish groups today criticized the State Department’s severe action against Israel. Statements to this effect were issued today by the American Jewish Congress, National Council of Jewish Women, Labor Zionist Organization of America and other organizations.

The American Jewish Congress emphasized in its statement that “the State Department’s action must give rise to fears that the traditional friendship of the American people for Israel is being turned into an official policy of open hostility. ” The Council of Jewish Women said that the suspension of American aid to Israel was “a coercive action.” The Labor Zionists charged Secretary Dulles with “a bias that is deplorable and that runs counter to the just spirit of America. “
