American Jewish leaders criticized France’s foreign minister for suggesting that they are impeding Israeli-Palestinian peace. Earlier last week, at a meeting of European and Mediterranean foreign ministers, French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine said the European Union should try to undercut American Jewry’s support for Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, forcing Sharon to be more conciliatory toward the Palestinians.
