AMERICAN JEWISH SCIENTIST WINS 1954 EINSTEIN AWARD

Dr. Richard P. Feynman, 35-year-old Professor of Theoretical Physics at the California Institute of Technology, will receive the 1954 Albert Einstein Award, Dr. J. Richard Oppenheimer, director of the Institute for Advanced Science at Princeton University, announced here yesterday on the eve of Prof. Einstein’s 75th birthday.

The award, presented every three years, is considered the highest of its kind, next to the Nobel Prize. Established by Admiral Lewis L. Strauss, chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, in memory of his parents, the award carries with it a gold medal and $15,000 in cash. The winners are selected by a committee of the institute for Advanced Science, which administers the award.

Prof. Feynman born in New York City and a graduate of its elementary and secondary schools, received his doctorate of philosophy at Princeton University. He was one of the leaders in the development of the atom bomb.
