Leopold Amery, former colonial secretary in the late Baldwin cabinet and Sir Herbert Samuel, first High Commissioner for Palestine and Liberal leader, will propose an amendment on the Palestine question immediately following the King’s speech to parliament next Tuesday. The amendment will level severe criticism against the government’s statement on policy in Palestine.
Simultaneously, Lord Reading, former Viceroy of India will raise the Palestine issue in the House of Lords. A heated discussion on the government’s Palestine policy is expected in parliament after the King’s speech in view of the distinct division of both houses into definite pro-Zionist and anti-Zionist camps.
The King’s speech upon the opening of parliament next Tuesday is awaited with the greatest interest in Zionist circles in view of the possibility that references will be made therein to the Palestine question. Pending the King’s speech nothing further on the Palestine subject can be expected by members of parliament before Tuesday as it is unusual to put down on paper any amendments or motions referring to the King’s speech before the actual text has been submitted which is usually done only an hour before its actual delivery.
