Anti-Jewish demonstrations were organized by Nationalists in Minsk-Mazowiec yesterday on the anniversary of the slaying of a Polish sergeant by a Jew which led to serious riots a year ago in which more than 40 Jews were injured and great property toll wrought by arson.
The demonstrations were organized in connection with a Catholic memorial service for the sergeant, named Bujak. Nationalists harangued crowds along the line of march to a memorial erected on the spot where Bujak was killed.
Meanwhile the slayer of the sergeant, certified as insane by the authorities, was to go on trial today in Warsaw. His name is Judah Leib Chatzkelewic. Eighty witnesses were called in the case.
Several Jews were attacked in Warsaw yesterday. No arrests were made. Nationalists also attacked Jewish pedestrians in Cracow, dragging Jews out of cafes. Police restored order there.
The Bialystok City Council rejected a proposal of Jewish members to protest against the May 13 anti-Jewish riots in Brzesc, but approved a resolution offered by Nationalist councillors to honor the memory of Kedziera, the policeman whose fatal wounding led to the excesses.
Jacob Wilenker was sentenced by a Wilno court to 18 months’ imprisonment for thrashing one of a band of anti-Semites which had attacked him.
